Mental Health Awareness at Haddo – May 2019
During the month of May Haddo will be home to a variety of activities and events designed to settle the mind and give people the tools to strive for better mental health.
Haddo is a place of solace for many, and the perfect environment to work on overall wellbeing. Working with partners Gillian Watt of ‘And Breathe123’ and Agnes Bruce of ‘Wellbeing with Agnes’, Haddo will be host to a series of talks, walks and workshops, all with the purpose of improving our ability to switch off and be present.
Suzanna Atkinson, Haddo visitor services officer said: “We are so pleased to play our part in bringing better mental health and wellbeing to our visitors. Many of us are affected by stress, have super busy lives, live with depression, sensory deficits and countless other conditions that can be relieved by spending time in the outdoors in guided sessions.
“We are working with Gillian and Agnes to introduce wellbeing at Haddo, which will initially ‘kick-off’ during Mental Health Awareness Week, but we hope will become a regular addition to the many activities at Haddo.
“The events and activities throughout May include a mindfulness walk for mums, several meditation and mindfulness workshops, and how learning to be present in the outdoors can drastically help how our brains process the world around us. There is something for everyone and there is a small fund available for people who can’t afford to pay the full cost of the activities.”
If you would like to donate to allow as many people as possible to attend the events and activities: search Haddo at Just Giving. Every penny helps the Haddo team to help someone else.

HADDO CHARITY EGG HUNT 2019 – EASTER DAY
Charity Haddo Egg Hunt
Once a year, on Easter Sunday, an Aberdeenshire Council park hosts a very special egg hunt. Organised by local Rotary Clubs at Haddo Country Park, Methlick, an Easter bunny leaves beautifully painted wooden eggs for children to find.
Haddo Visitor Services Officer, Suzanna Atkinson, said: “It is an incredibly busy day at Haddo, so we have to close the estate to all vehicles except those who have pre-purchased parking passes for the hunt, these can be bought by searching for Haddo Egg Hunt online at brownpapertickets.com or visiting our Facebook page @visithaddo.”
As well as the charming eggs to find, there will be a face-painter, crafts, an egg-rolling competition and tasty treats to buy. Income from all activities and stalls goes to charity, so it’s a very fitting way to spend Easter with the family.
Suzanna said: “So many community groups get involved in this event. We plan it for a year to make sure it’s a wonderful day out for families. It’s a real credit to the volunteers that we manage to put on something so fun, but yet so rewarding for all involved.”
All profits from this year’s event will be going to the Neonatal Unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
