Haddo House & Country Park – seasons changes

Haddo House & Country Park

The days are getting shorter and we’ve changed to our winter opening hours, but there’s still plenty going on here at Haddo!

This month you can get a head start on your Christmas shopping at our Christmas Craft Fair, or teach your kids how to make natural decorations on our Kid’s Christmas Bushcraft Day.

Haddo House is now closed for the winter, the NTS shop and tearoom will be open at weekends only. The park, gardens, playground and Mrs Smith’s are still open all week. See visithaddo.com for full winter opening hours.

Night of Terrors…

30 Oct 2014

Only the bravest visitors have been allowed to enter the terrifying Haddo House this week…

Our Haddo Hallowe’en Horror Experience premiered last night, and judging by the visitor reaction, was suitably terrifying. You can see the survivor’s pictures (and post your own!) on the Haddo House Facebook page. The second horror evening is on tonight, and there’ll be a genuine paranormal research team in the house as well to see if there are any real ghosts hanging around in the disused rooms…

Crafts For Christmas

For visitors of a slightly more nervous disposition (and those of you who want to get a head start on the Christmas shopping), then it’s our annual Christmas Craft Fair this weekend! The hall is already filling up with crafters and there’s everything from sweets to woodcraft on sale. The NTS shop will be open as well with a range of new Christmassy gifts and toys and there’ll be mulled wine (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and mince pies as well. The fair is open from 10am-4pm costs £3 to enter (under 16s free).

Autumn Reds

Out in the park the leaves have finally turned and we’re getting a brief blaze of autumn colour before the leaves finish falling. The view from the top of the deer park over the park and estate is particularly special at the moment. There are still plenty of Red Squirrels about – Kemble’s Seat, behind the Adventure Playground and around the Squirrel Hide seem to be the best spots to see them but they could turn up anywhere.

Tarves Clothing Bank – helps our local Playgroup.

tarvesPlaygroupRedTarves Playgroup just wanted to make everyone aware that they have a clothing bank outside the youth hall.

So when you’re having a clear out please bear this in mind.  Deposit those old clothes that cannot be re-used as it raises money for the Playgroup. It was emptied yesterday and they raised £30

Many thanks

Tarves – one of the blooming best.

Tarves was narrowly beaten this year in the Formartine in Bloom competition by arch rival and neighbour Pitmedden Village in Udny. Gordon Brown, Sheila Ewen and the rest of the Tarves Amenities Group had made a lot of improvements and the floral displays looked excellent. However, by judging day, some bad weather had caused more problems for the Tarves crew than Pitmedden and judges gave the top accolade to Pitmedden – but they admit it was close. Congratulations to all who have helped.

If you want Tarves to get that top spot… but more importantly, just to make our village a great place to live, please give Gordon Brown a call on: 851040 to get involved.  Every little helps, from looking after a flower tub to helping with the watering and planting.
