Why has Haddo got piles?

If you’ve visited Haddo this week you might have wondered why there are piles of netting, posts and bundles of wire lying around…

Thanks to the hard graft of Aberdeen University Officer Training Corps (OTC) we have made significant progress with ‘Explore Haddo’ – an educational area within the woodlands for visiting groups. Students from OTC volunteered this week and removed the top netting on one of the fences to create the boundary for ‘Explore Haddo’ – this is a space designed to allow groups to roam free within the defined area.

The students also dismantled another fence opening a second plantation for more adventurous visitors. We are really grateful for their hard work and it means that we can start to develop ideas for using ‘Explore Haddo’ more extensively. More details to follow…

FRASER (Ellon/Tarves) Suddenly but peacefully, at Woodend Hospital, on June 11, 2012, Violet Margaret (nee Killoh), aged 83 years. The wife of the late Davie Fraser, formerly of Shethin Smiddy and loving mother of Sheila and David, Mother-in-law of Jim and Ellamary, Nana to Kerry, Vikki, Garri, Donna and Debbie and an adored great-nana to eight. A private Cremation was held , followed by a service of thanksgiving in Tarves Parish Church on Monday June 18, to which all family and friends were invited.

June MCANDIE of Mackie Avenue, Tarves, has died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, (nee June West), aged 78 years, (formerly of Cairnbrogie). June was the dearly loved wife of the late Rob McAndie, and much loved mum of Derek and Lynne and Martin and Lorraine, as well as loving granny of Claire and Chloe and loving grinney of Wilson and Morgan.  Also a dear sister, sister-in-law, aunt and good friend to many.

A service was held in Tarves Parish Church, on Monday, June 11, at midday, and  then June was laid to rest in Ellon Cemetery. Donations, in lieu of flowers, at the church were made for Haddo District Nurses.

Haddo Celebrates the Diamond Jubilee!

Tue 5 JunJoin us for a day of special Diamond Jubilee related events!

Come and celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with a traditional street party in the Haddo courtyard (or in the tearoom in the case of traditional Scottish weather!) We will have a special Diamond Jubilee themed menu, and a selection of themed children’s crafts.

We’ll also be running a new ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour that will include the South Wing of Haddo House which has recently come into the ownership of the National Trust for Scotland. This will run at 11am and 2.30pm and normal admission prices apply.

As places are limited we encourage you to pre-book onto the tour by calling Haddo on 0844 493 2179. Normal tours of the house will also run at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
